caBIG™ Large Scale Model Harmonization

The Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG) is an initiative of the National Cancer Institute that incorporates information models across numerous application domains. Harmonizing these models is necessary to realize caBIG's goal of improving semantic interoperability using Model Driven Architecture (MDA). This paper discusses recommendations for a harmonized caBIG domain model, known as the Backbone Model. To develop the Backbone Model, the authors chose Enterprise Architect, which was already widely used on caBIG projects because of its model sharing capabilities.
